#UFCCalgary results: Katlyn Chookagian edges out Alexis Davis in three round war

Tonight, the second of three exciting female fights in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, takes place in the flyweight division as top-ten ranked contenders Alexis Davis and Katlyn Chookagian go to battle.

RECAP: Chookagian is the slight favorite versus the hometown fighter. Really good movement to get started for Chookagian. She is bouncing and staying light on the feet. Pumping her jab and sending high output, reddening and eventually cutting the face of Davis. On the other hand, Davis is cutting off the Octagon and landing quality strikes of her own. Round one was contested all on the feet with Chookagian likely edging it out. Round 2 and Davis is picking up where she left off with leg kicks and they are starting to add up. Davis is walking Chookagian down and sticking to her gameplan– distract with the punches and beat up the legs. This has been an all striking affair and both fighters are doing well. Most likely 1-1 going into the third. Early in the third round and it looks like Blonde Fighter stuns Davis! She comes in but eats a check right hook that causes Katlyn to briefly stumble. Davis is wearing it on her face. With one minute left in the round,  the significant strikes are 92-91 in the favor of Chookagian. In the last ten seconds, Davis trips Chookagian and ends up on top!

THOUGHTS: WMMA Rankings scores the bout 29-28 for Chookagian. Awesome fight. This was a fun, competitive, and evenly-matched bout. Both of these fighters are hanging in the top ten for the time being and had great moments.

Katlyn Chookagian def. Alexis Davis via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

  1. I’d say both are in the top 5. Interesting title contention building up. Katlyn has now beaten Sihara, Lauren and Alexis, who has beaten Jessica Eye and Liz, who has beaten Maia, Lauren and Katlyn. Given how close many of the fights have been, it’s anyone’s guess who’s next in line after Valentina to contend for the title.

    1. Katlyn should be next really. but they can make her and Eubanks fight again I guess. gotta say, this division is not looking exciting at all. off to the worst start of all female divisions in the UFC.
