#UFCCalgary Predictions

Tonight, some of MMA’s toughest ladies will do battle as the UFC touches down in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, for one of this year’s most anticipated cards.

On the UFC Fight Pass Prelims, Nina Ansaroff meets Randa “Quiet Storm” Markos in an important strawweight showdown. Also on Fight Pass, top-ranked flyweights  Katlyn “Blonde Fighter” Chookagian and Canada’s own Alexis Davis look to stake their claim for a future title shot. Finally, on the main card, former champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk returns to action against the number five ranked Tecia “Tiny Tornado” Torres.

Before the cage door closes, check out the WMMA Rankings panel predictions below!

NINA ANSAROFF VS RANDA MARKOS

JILL: Ansaroff’s MMA career has been progressing nicely over the years. Not only does she show improvement in every bout – whether she’s coming off a win or a loss – she has a great team behind her. Although Markos has faced quite a few ups and downs over the years, she demonstrates impressive grit every time. This is a difficult one, but I’m going with Ansaroff via unanimous decision.

PICK – NINA ANSAROFF

TERENCE: I think Markos’ wrestling will be too much for Ansaroff. Nina’s only hope is to finish her with strikes early, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Randa Markos by unanimous decision.

PICK – RANDA MARKOS

STEPHEN: It’s a pretty evenly matched fight. But a very under the radar one. If you are to watch any of the Fight Pass prelim fights make it this one. Ansaroff Split Decision.

PICK – NINA ANSAROFF

IDREES: Randa Markos.

PICK – RANDA MARKOS

BRYCE: This should be an interesting fight. If Markos is able to keep the fight on the ground or in the clinch then I could easily see her pulling off the decision win. However, if Ansaroff is able to keep the fight standing then I see the fight being in her advantage as she’s the better striker. I believe Ansaroff will be able to keep the fight standing which will result in a win for Ansaroff. Ansaroff via Decision.

PICK – NINA ANSAROFF

NICK: Tough call. I see these two pretty evenly matched with solid all-around skill sets. Markos has a nice pop in her right hand but I think Ansaroff is the better striker. On the contrary, Nina has an underrated ground game but I think Randa is the better wrestler. I’m not confident in my decision completely, but I see Ansaroff taking a decision win over a gritty Markos and the “Quiet Storm” continuing her frustraing pattern of alternating in the Octagon.

ALEXIS DAVIS VS KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

JILL: Katlyn Chookagain does not get the credit she deserves. She trains with the best and has the record to show for it. Her only loss was a close one, and she’s game to tussle whether on the ground or on her feet. Of course, much of the same can be said for Alexis Davis. Davis even defeated current bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes when they fought for Strikeforce. Another tough pick! Chookagain by decision.

PICK – KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

TERENCE: Davis and Chookagian are both well-rounded, but Ally-Gator may have lost enough to be vulnerable here. Chookagian is a solid striker, and has submission wins on the ground. This could be a heck of a scrap or a one-way beatdown. Either way, I think the Blonde Fighter takes it.  Katlyn Chookagian by decision.

PICK – KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

STEPHEN: Davis may be a former title contender and still be ranked 3rd but Chookagian has the goods to beat her. The boxing from Chookagian will win this fight.  Chookagian Unanimous Decision.

PICK – KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

IDREES: Alexis Davis.

PICK – ALEXIS DAVIS

BRYCE: If Davis takes Chookagian down and uses her jiu-jitsu then I could easily see this fight ending early via submission. However, I just don’t see that happening in this fight. Instead, I see this turning into a stand-up fight where Chookagian is able to simply outstrike Davis all the way to a Decision victory. Chookagian via Decision.

PICK – KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

NICK: Another tough call! I really like both of these ladies and I see paths to victory for each one. They are both well-rounded and willing to exchange. I think they both have a solid place in the top ten for the time being as well. Though both well-rounded, I do think Blonde Fighter is the better striker while Davis is the better jiu-jitsu practitioner. With that being said, I think Chookagian outpoints Davis en route to a split-decision win.

PICK – KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN

Image result for joanna vs tecia

JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK VS TECIA TORRES

JILL: I love this fight. There’s a lot of angst associated with it because there’s so much at stake for both women. They’re each coming off losses, each with only two L’s in their professional careers. Although Tecia is a well-rounded fighter, I don’t think the skills in her toolbox are quite on par with Joanna’s. Jedrzejczyk by 3rd-round TKO.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK

TERENCE: Joanna has lost two straight to division champion Rose Namajunas. This time, she is up against a former teammate in Torres. Torres is fast, and that speed could cause the former champion problems, but I don’t think it will. I think Joanna Champion will get back on track. Joanna Jedrzejczyk by second-round TKO.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK

STEPHEN: On such a deep Card this fight can still take the Fight of the Night honors. Tecia Torres is scrappy and strong and Joanna is a great striker. I just don’t see the former champion dropping 3 straight. She will look for the finish early and will most likely get it at some point. Joanna, KO, Round 2.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK

IDREES: Joanna Jędrzejczyk.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK

BRYCE: Man, Joanna was on top of the world for a long while with her strawweight title reign. Everything seemed to be going her way until she went up against a Thug and the Thug won. Twice. Now we’ll get to see if Joanna is able to build her way back up to another title fight. In her way through is Tecia who was on a nice winning streak until having to take on Andrade. I see Tecia being a tough challenge for Joanna, but I believe Joanna’s striking along with her reach advantage will just be too much for Tecia. Joanna via KO round 3.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK

NICK: This is a championship quality fight right here. We could have easily seen JJ vs TT for the strap a little while back. I think this is going to be a fast-paced fight and I think Tecia is going to give Joanna a run for her money. Her speed and karate style definitely present some unique challenges for any fighter– but I just don’t see it being enough to break the former champ. I think JJ has the sharper stuff (plus reach and height advantages) and will show why she has long been considered one of the P4P greats.

PICK  – JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK
