#UFCBelem predictions: Shevchenko vs. Cachoeira, Stevenson vs. Viana

UFC Fight Night 125 take place tonight (Saturday February 3) from the Mangueirinho Gymnasium in Belem, Para, Brazil.

The main card airs live on Fox Sports 1 from 10pm EST and features the highly-anticipated flyweight debut of Valentina Shevchenko when she takes on undefeated promotional newcomer Priscila Cachoeira. The preliminary card airs live on Fox Sports 1 from 8pm EST and featured a strawweight bout between promising newcomers Maia Stevenson and Polyana Viana.

Ahead of tonight’s event, the WMMA Rankings have made their predictions for the fights. Take a look below:

Valentina Shevchenko (14-3) vs. Priscila Cachoeira (8-0)
Main Card (Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET)

Nick: Super stoked for this one! Like many others, I have 100% confidence in saying Valentina is the already best 125er in the world. High-level experience, exceptional Muay Thai, and an underrated ground game make her an immediate front runner. On the opposing side, Cachoeira is an exciting fighter— she’s a brawler with a lot of heart. I think she will do well in the division and has a lot of exciting fights ahead of her. Stylistically, her aggressive and wild style will play directly into Valentina’s strong suit—counter-striking. Valentina should take a dominant win here.
Pick: Valentina Shevchenko

Lucy: Valentina vs Priscila is intriguing, people are expecting Valentina to get a good win and probably enter the top five in the Flyweight division straight away. I think Valentina might be overlooking Priscila since she’s not a big name yet. Half of Priscila’s wins have come via TKO and she’s undefeated at 8-0. I’m actually going to take the underdog and predict that Priscila gets her fifth TKO win against Valentina.
Pick: Priscila Cachoeira

Noah: Shevchenko is the heavy betting favorite in this one. She is up there with Germaine de Randamie in terms of the best pure striker in the UFC. However unlike de Randamie, Shevchenko has shown that she also has a very good ground game. I don’t see Cachoeira being able to contest with Shevchenko on the feet, however on the ground things could get interesting. Ultimately I believe Shevchenko’s well-rounded MMA game and high-level experience will be too much for Cachoeira. Shevchenko will emerge victorious via a dominant unanimous decision.
Pick: Valentina Shevchenko

Maia Stevenson vs. Polyana Viana
Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET)

Nick:  I was quite surprised when I saw Stevenson step on the scale at weigh-ins— I didn’t realize how small her frame actually was. She looks good at strawweight and I think she’ll do well. With that being said, I’m going take Polyana for the W. From what I’ve seen, she’s well-rounded and she’s good at finding openings. Expect a lot of fun grappling exchanges in this one, with Viana coming out on top.
Pick: Polyana Viana

Lucy: Maia vs Polyana will probably not result in either fighter entering the top 15 since its probably the most stacked women’s division in UFC at the moment. Maia said she feels that 115 is her proper weight class and that she felt undersized at 125, so I wish her the best and predict a good win for her. I think the winner should ask for a ranked fighter if they get a particularly good victory.
Pick: Maia Stevenson

Noah: A fun fight showcasing two talented strawweight prospects making their UFC debuts. This one could really go either way as we haven’t seen either of them go up against a high enough level of competition when it comes to professional MMA. Both have looked good in their recent showings and have shown themselves to be quick finishers. Viana has been on a roll recently with five consecutive first round submission finishes and has a lot of hype behind her in Brazil. I believe she does the same tonight in her home-country, Viana via armbar.
Pick: Polyana Viana
