#UFC223 results: #AndStill… ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas retains title with unanimous decision win over Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Tonight, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the strawweight strap was on the line as Joanna Jedrzejczyk rematches champion “Thug” Rose Namajunas.

RECAP: Here we go!! Both fighters have each other’s respect. Rose is looking really fluid in her strokes and movement. The entire first three rounds is contested at range, minus about fifteen seconds in the clinch where Joanna landed some nice knees. Joanna is really working the leg kicks. Rose’s leg is reddening real bright. Going into the fifth, this could easily be 2-2. Such a technical fight. Both very measured in the fight. Fifth round, Joanna has some sweeping on the right eye due to the consistent left hook of Namajunas. In the beginning of the last round, Rose lands a beautiful uppercut that gets Joanna’s nose bleeding a lot more. JJ is stringing together a lot more combinations now. Rose hooks the leg for a late takedown with thirty seconds left! The bell rings and we are going to the judges! The fighters embrace— what a fantastic, technical match-up.

Rose namajunas def. joanna Jedrzejczyk via unanimous decision (49-46 x 3)

  1. While I too would’ve given the decision to Rose, I was surprised that all judges saw it identically. I thought that there would be at least one 48-47 score among them.
