#UFC223 Predictions: Rose Namajunas vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Tonight at the Barclays Center, some of MMA’s toughest ladies will do battle as one of the years most anticipated cards takes over Brooklyn.

Three pivotal women’s bouts will be featured throughout the night across two divisions– one flyweight fight and two strawweight scraps. In the feature fight of the Early Fight Pass Prelims, Bec Rawlings and Ashlee Evans-Smith will settle their differences. Later that night, the FS1 Prelims will be capped off by top ten strawweight standouts Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Felice Herrig. Finally, in the co-main event of the night, Joanna Jedrzejczyk will attempt to reclaim the strawweight throne as she rematches the reigning champion, “Thug” Rose Namajunas.

Prior to tonight’s thrilling throwdowns, the WMMA Rankings team weighs-in on which fighters they believe will have their hands raised. Check out the panel predictions below!

Rose Namajuns vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk

JILL: As Rose said to on Joe Rogan’s MMA podcast, “You can’t paint the Mona Lisa twice.” I think she’s going to give Joanna a run for her money, but I think the former champ will make the right adjustments. Joanna by decision.

IDREES: I feel that Joanna bought into her own hype and was overconfident going into the first fight with Namajunas. I expect Joanna to be more measured in her approach and knock the champion out in the fourth.

TERENCE: Rose has predicted a submission this time. I don’t know what adjustments Joanna can make to win this unless she gets Rose early and hard and finishes her. I think Rose gets her pick. My prediction – Rose Namajunas by 2nd round submission.

STEPHEN: The first fight was all Rose Namajunas. She beat Joanna on the feet, which was shocking in itself. This time Rose will need to mix her stand up with her the ground game. If Joanna wins, it will be on the feet. Her standup is lethal and if she gets it going early, Rose might be in for a long fight. Rose Namajunas, Submission Round 4.

NICK: Dana White predicted this to be FOTN, and I got to agree with him on that one. This is such an elite level, pivotal WMMA fight. It’s hard to match these two up given the duration of their first encounter… there are so many ways this can go down. I’m going to agree with Jill and Idrees on this one— a more measured Joanna makes the right adjustments to drag Rose into deep waters enroute to a decision victory.
