#UFC223 Predictions: Bec Rawlings vs Ashlee Evans-Smith

Tonight at the Barclays Center, some of MMA’s toughest ladies will do battle as one of the years most anticipated cards takes over Brooklyn.

Three pivotal women’s bouts will be featured throughout the night across two divisions– one flyweight fight and two strawweight scraps. In the feature fight of the Early Fight Pass Prelims, Bec Rawlings and Ashlee Evans-Smith will settle their differences. Later that night, the FS1 Prelims will be capped off by top ten strawweight standouts Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Felice Herrig. Finally, in the co-main event of the night, Joanna Jedrzejczyk will attempt to reclaim the strawweight throne as she rematches the reigning champion, “Thug” Rose Namajunas.

Prior to tonight’s thrilling throwdowns, the WMMA Rankings team weighs-in on which fighters they believe will have their hands raised. Check out the panel predictions below!

JILL: Bec has been on an unfortunate losing streak, so hopefully she’s upped her game with some fresh skills to showcase. Ashlee has had a bit of a tough run lately as well – and she’s making her debut in the 125 lb. division. Nonetheless, I think Ashlee is going to take the win via submission.

IDREES: Bec has not enjoyed much success in the UFC and I expect that trend to continue. If Evans-Smith is able to make 125 in reasonable condition expect her to finish Rawlings sometime in the second round.

TERENCE: This could be a loser leaves the Octagon match. Both girls have had uneven UFC careers, losing matches they were winning or could have won. I expect them to fight as if their jobs were on the line. My prediction: Ashlee Evans-Smith by decision.

STEPHEN: 5 fights in the UFC and only 2 wins for Evans-Smith. She’s on a 2 fight losing streak but hasn’t looked terrible in her ufc fights. To get back in the win column Evans-Smith will need to use her Jiu-Jitsu and get Rawlings on the ground. If she does that, she will have a much better shit at getting a win. Bec Rawlings is on 3 fight losing streak and hasn’t really impressed much since coming to the UFC in 2014. 6 fights in the UFC and only 2 wins. Not a good record. To win, Rawlings need to keep the fight standing. Ashlee Evans-Smith, KO Round 2.

NICK: This fight was really out of the blue to me. I didn’t see this match-up coming and I honestly couldn’t imagine Ashlee moving to 125 as I always thought she was a good size for 135. With that being said, this is a must-win for both fighters who have struggled in their last feeble bouts. I see Ashlee using her wrestling, top control, and size to ground Bec and wear her out. I see a late TKO or UD nod for the American fighter.

  1. One of yesterday’s postings noted that Bec Rawlings vs Ashlee Evans-Smith had been promoted to the FS1 Prelims. Has the card been changed once again? Above it’s noted this fight will be in the Fight Pass Prelims.
