This Saturday, fight fans will be treated to action in both the women’s strawweight and flyweight divisions. On the FS1 prelims, Pearl Gonzalez will make her sophomore UFC appearance in a strawweight clash against promotional newcomer Poliana Botelho. Later that night on the main card, Kalindra Faria and Mara Romero Borella will make thier respective UFC debuts in the newly minted flyweight division. Check out WMMA Ranking’s predictions for UFC 216’s action below!
PEARL GONZALEZ VS POLIANA BOTELHO
Honestly, I’m stoked for this fight! It’s also pretty interesting that it’s at 115 pounds because both fighters have had success at 125 outside the UFC. It’s going to be a really fun scrap between two game fighters. Pearl is gritty, well-rounded, and durable. Poliana is strong, disciplined, and has a dynamic striking game. This is a toss-up for me. I expect Botelho to try and keep it standing— look for her to throw spinning back heel kicks to the body (a move she utilized in XFC a lot) and pressure Gonzalez against the cage. Look for Pearl to have good stand-up defense and work a takedown. I’m going go with Pearl via split-decision.
KALINDRA FARIA VS MARA ROMERO BORELLA
Really glad to see that these ladies are getting a chance to shine on the main card. I was sooo upset when PVZ vs Eye was called off but I’m glad that we’re still getting flyweight action. This is another hard one to call. I’m not as familiar with Faria and Borella as I am with Gonzalez and Botelho, but from what I’ve seen I’m going to have to go with Kalindra Faria via third-round TKO.
