On Saturday, in the main event of UFC 215, “The Lioness” Amanda Nunes will look to make her second championship defense against number one contender Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko. Prior to the exhilarating main event, relive the battle that ignited Nunes and Shevchenko’s rivalry.
UFC 194 was a huge card for the bantamweight division. Not only were Miesha Tate and Holly Holm fighting for the bantamweight championship but Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko were fighting in a title eliminator. After three hard rounds, Nunes was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
After the fight, Nunes would go on to capture the bantamweight belt from Miesha Tate in the main event of UFC 200. She became the second woman to successfully defend the title when she TKO’d Ronda Rousey at UFC 207.
Despite losing to Nunes in a title eliminator, Shevchenko remained at the top of the division. After defeating Holly Holm via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 20, Shevchenko cemented her title shot against Nunes with an emphatic second-round armbar victory over Julianna Peña.
