UFC throws subtle shot at tonight’s Bellator 238 headliner between Julia Budd and Cris Cyborg

The UFC has appeared to have thrown a subtle shot at the highly-anticipated Bellator featherweight title fight taking place tonight between Julia Budd and Cris Cyborg.

Cris Cyborg challenges Julia Budd for the Bellator featherweight title tonight.

The MMA world is buzzing for tonight’s Bellator 238 event when Julia Budd will attempt to make the fourth defense of her featherweight title by taking out the promotional newcomer and former UFC, Strikeforce and Invicta FC champ, Cris Cyborg.

Friday night, moments before Budd and Cyborg were scheduled to face-off at the Bellator 238 ceremonial weigh-ins, the UFC decided to post a video of Amanda Nunes’ 14-second knockout over Julia Budd from back in 2011. Out of all days to post this video, which was uploaded to their official UFC Fight Pass Facebook page, the organization decided to do so at a time when the spotlight is well and truly on Budd and Cyborg.

Watch the greatest female fighter of all-time, Amanda Nunes, win her Strikeforce debut in just 14 seconds!” the organization wrote, without acknowledging who Budd was.

It should be noted that Budd’s loss to Amanda Nunes was in her second ever professional MMA fight, almost a decade ago.

Tonight’s fight between Julia Budd and Cris Cyborg will without a doubt determine the number-one active women’s 145-pound fighter on the planet. Both women are true featherweights who have fought the entirety of their careers within the weight-class.

‘Bellator 238: Budd vs. Cyborg’ takes place Saturday January 25, 2020, from The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States. The main card will be aired live on DAZN from 10pm EST.

  1. How can tonight’s fight “without a doubt determine the number-one active women’s 145-pound fighter on the planet.”. when Amanda has beaten both of them, and whose next fight is purported to be at 145? #1 at Bellator but definitely not the world.
