UFC Tampa main event featuring Joanna Jedrzejczyk & Michelle Waterson is in jeopardy

This Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 19 main event featuring a strawweight contest between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson is in major jeopardy and likely to be called off.

UFC reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, detailed the situation earlier today.

Some breaking news from Raphael Marinho of Combate this morning, who reports that Joanna Jędrzejczyk has informed the UFC that she will be unable to make 115 for this weekend’s main event Waterson is refusing a catchweight and has also refused facing Dern or Ribas per Marinho” he wrote.

Angela Hill may replace Waterson in the main and face Joanna at a catchweight and Waterson may move to the UFC 244 card.” he continued.

The story is continuing to develop and an update has since been provided.

Combate have updated the story and report that the UFC have given Michelle Waterson two choices: Face Joanna this weekend at a catchweight or face Jessica Andrade at UFC 244.” he concluded.

Fight fans, what are your thoughts on the situation? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. Good for Michelle Waterson. Stand up to that good predictable MMA pattern, one fighter can’t make weight, so the other fight agrees to fight at a Catchweight at a weight not in the fighters division and should have no affect on the rankings no matter who wins. But actual MMA fight records have proven it out, the fighter that came in over the weight class limit and needed a Catchweight agreement from the other fighter that was on weight wins the fight majority amount of times and moves up in the rankings in the weight class that the fight did not even occur at. And in typical fashion certain social media MMA fans go right along with it making these MMA promotions feel even more emboldened to keep screwing over their MMA fighters. Much respect Michelle Waterson, I hope she continues to stick to her professional principles.

  2. Good news for hottie if it’s true. Joanna will have to starve herself to even make weight. No big surprise there because she was always a big girl for a strawweight and it’s no surprise that she can’t get that weight off anymore after fightin at flyweight. On the other hand she’s also the queen of playing mindgames. Perhaps she’s fine but is just trying to get under Michelle’s skin. I rule nothing out.

    1. It is a very interesting situation! She took to Instagram to tell everyone there is nothing to worry about and that the fight is going to happen. I really wish she would make the permanent move up to 125!
