UFC Rankings Report: Tatiana Suarez soars at strawweight

This week, the official UFC fighter rankings saw some re-shuffling in the women’s divisions post-UFC 228. Check out the changes below!

STRAWWEIGHT: At UFC 228, Jessica Andrade scored an emphatic victory to likely cement a title shot in the co-main event. Tatiana Suarez showed utter dominance in her fight as well, besting a former champ in Carla Esparza.

  • Tatiana Suarez moved up five spots to #4
  • Karolina Kowalkiewicz moved down one spot to #5
  • Tecia Torres moved down one spot to #6
  • Carla Esparza moved down one spot to #8
  • Felice Herrig moved down one spot to #9

FLYWEIGHT: Lots of movement in the flyweight division but not because of an actual fight.

  • Nicco Montano was stripped of the title, thus moving down two spots to #2
  • Sijara Eubanks moved down two spots to #4
  • Roxanne Modafferi moved down one spot to #6
  • Lauren Murphy moved down one spot to #7
  • Jessica Eye moved down one spot to #8
  • Jessica-Rose Clark moved down one spot to #10
  • Ashlee Evans-Smith moved down one spot to #11
  • Joanne Calderwood moved down one spot to #12
  • Mara Romero Borella moved down one spot to #13
  • Andrea Lee  moved down one spot to #14
  • Jennifer Maia is ranked #15
  • Paige VanZant moved out of the top fifteen

BANTAMWEIGHT: Irene Aldana and Lucie Pudilova earned FOTN honors for an absolute barnburner on UFC Fight Pass.  Aldana inched closer to breaking the top ten and Pudilova remained at #13. Both fighters have a bright future and all eyes will be in them going forward.

  • Irene Aldana moved up one spot to #11
  • Lina Lansberg moved up down one spot to #12

  • Cris Cyborg moved up one spot to #10

    1. They have the champion listed as C instead of ranked by a number, so since Nicco was stripped and there is no current champ, they added her into the rankings at number two behind Valentina, thus causing all the downward movement!

  1. Not sure if Roxanne Modafferi is #6 or #7 from the UFC ranking page. Is that a typo? Why do some move down one, some two, and others not at all?

    1. Thats a good question as to why they have both Roxy and Liz ranked at #6. I think its a typo, and Liz is #6, Roxy is #7. (They have quite a few typos on their official site– they even have Karolina’s record wrong!)

  2. I know a lot of people believe the rankings are flawed, and they often are, but I think its still important to consider them because they determine match-ups most of the time!

  3. nice rise for Tatiana and well deserved. gotta say, they may as well remove Nicco and Sijara from the top 5 at 125. the TUF season has officially been a complete waste of time thanks to those two.

    1. I really wish that Blonde Fighter would have been in the TUF house. The division would be in a whole other state right now. She was interested in doing it too, but went into shoulder surgery the day it was announced.
I believe that she could/would have won the belt. All of her coaches were on in the house on Team Eddie. She would have had her home coaches there to focus on her, a chance to gain some spotlight, and potentially win the belt!
