UFC 237 results: Jessica Andrade wins strawweight title, defeats Rose Namajunas via second-round knockout

Saturday night at the UFC 237 event, Jessica Andrade became the new strawweight champion after defeating Rose Namajunas via second-round knockout.

Andrade improves her record to 20-6-0, picking up her first UFC title in the process. The 27-year-old owns victories over the likes of Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Tecia Torres, Claudia Gadelha and Joanne Calderwood.

UFC 237 took place on Saturday 11 May from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main card headlined by Namajunas vs. Andrade was aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.

  1. OK, that was scary! For a few seconds there I was wondering if Rose was dead or maybe crippled for life. Question – why was that legal? I thought pile drivers were illegal in the UFC and MMA in general and here we have a fighter with the nickname “pile driver” (bate estaca) who wins the championship by one and promises more to come. Is the fact that it was not at exactly 90 degrees what made it legal?

    1. Hi Kirt. Big John explained the rule. It’s always legal if you’re fighting to get out of a submission.
