UFC 230 results: Sijara Eubanks decisions Roxanne Modafferi

Tonight, on the UFC 230 FS1 Prelims, a key women’s flyweight bout between TUF 26 alums Roxanne Modafferi and Sijara Eubanks took place.

RECAP:  Both ladies need a win here to keep their names near the top five of the division. In the first round, Sijara came out looking like the physically stronger fighter early. Roxy landed some good shots but they lacked the power to stun Eubanks. In the second round, Eubanks landed a nice head kick and followed it up with some ground and pound but Roxy recovered nicely and ended the round on top with some ground and pound of her own. Finally, in the final frame, Sijara did enough on the feet and in the grappling department to likely cement her as the victor via decision.

Sijara Eubanks def. Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous  (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

  1. Roxy did better than I thought she would/Sarj did worse. I expected a hiding, for Sarj to simply overpower Roxy… frankly, anyone that can’t tear through Roxy (who at absolute best is perhaps a Top 10 fighter, but will never see UFC gold) might not even be Top 10 themselves. Awful showing from Eubanks.

  2. Foodbanks doesn’t belong in the division. She can’t make the weight. She’s trying to cheat her way to a quick title shot in a new division by giving up a fraction of her purse. Kick her the fuck out.

Roxy took the fight on 3 weeks notice against a bigger, stronger opponent and made weight minus .3 pounds.

However Roxy shouldn’t have taken the fight when Foodbanks got even heavier. That was the whole problem with the first fight.

Roxy wouldn’t have looked so bad if she wasn’t out-sized and out-muscled but she did improve over the TUF fight at least.

    Roxy 100% class 100% warrior 100% likeable.

    Foodbanks bigmouthed unprofessional POS.

  3. They both looked like low level regional MMA fighters. Roxanne Modaferri, slow, weak striking, looking clueless on the ground, unorthodox, and unathletic. Eubanks, slow, unathletic, clueless on the ground, robotic, and couldn’t make weight. I don’t want to see either of them in the UFC or Bellator.
