UFC 229 results: Yana Kunitskaya wins dominant decision over Lina Lansberg

Tonight, at UFC 229, the first of three exciting women’s bouts took place on UFC Fight Pass in the bantamweight division as “Foxy” Yana Kunitskaya clashed with the “Elbow Queen” Lina Lansberg.

RECAP: From the beginning, Yana was the more active fighter. She landed a total of five takedowns, including two beautiful judo flips, and amounted ten minutes of positional control. A striking war was expected from these two but the bout played out mostly in grappling.

Yana Kunitskaya def. Lina Lansberg via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

  1. Lansberg is a striker, and Kunitskaya obviously knew that. No surprise she’d rather halt her opponent and clinch, rather than brawl with a boxer.

Much needed and well deserved win for Kunitskaya. Hopefully she’ll be ranked after this. Props to both ladies AND Tonya Evinger, for stepping up to fight Crisis Cyborg at a heavier weight class, and sticking around even after those nasty finishes.
