Before Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha clashes with Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a pivotal strawweight battle this Saturday at UFC 212, check out her handy work against Jessica Aguilar.
In December of 2014, Claudia Gadelha was defeated for the first time in her pro career as she lost a controversial split-decision to Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Nearly eight months later, she returned to action in August of 2015 at UFC 190 to take on a debuting Jessica Aguilar. Gadelha would enter the bout more determined than ever earn a title shot against the woman who handed her her sole loss. In the fight, Gadelha showcased improved striking, strong wrestling, and lots of aggression.
After defeating Aguilar, Gadelha went on to face Jedrzejczyk for the title in July 2016. Gadelha had Jedrzejczyk in early trouble, but the champion was able to weather the storm and pick Claudia apart in the later rounds for a unanimous decision win.
Gadelha would bounce back from her championship opportunity loss with a dominant win over Cortney Casey. After the fight with Casey, there was no clear direction for the number one ranked Gadelha– but that all changed when Karolina Kowalkiewicz and her camp called Gadelha out, leading us to UFC 212.
UFC 212 takes place on Saturday in Rio de Janiero, Brazil on PPV
