Tonya Evinger: “My next UFC fight is definitely at 135. I’ll fight anybody, let’s do it”

Tonya Evinger unsuccessfully challenged for the vacant UFC featherweight title this past Saturday at the UFC 214 pay-per-view event. She lost out to Cris Cyborg in the third round via knockout.

Evinger (19-7, 1 NC) was making her UFC debut at the event, having previously competed as a bantamweight for Invicta FC, a division in which she was a long-reigning champion. The 36-year-old has confirmed she will make the move back down to 135-pounds in an attempt to become the UFC bantamweight champion of the world.

Yeah, next fight is definitely at 35. Obviously, I’ll fight anybody, so let’s do it.” Evinger said at the post-fight press conference.

“Triple Threat” is disappointed in the result of Saturday’s fight. She feels as though she beat herself, and aimed to go all five rounds.

I just felt like I kind of beat myself,” Evinger said. “I don’t know how to explain it, I felt like I was on the downside of that slope. Nothing was landing, I kind of felt like nothing I was doing was working. To be honest, it wasn’t (the size of the show) or anything that got me off.

I just wanted to go five, or win the fight is what I wanted,” Evinger said. “So it’s back to work, I guess.

Fight fans, are you excited to see Evinger compete in the UFC’s bantamweight division? Who would you like to see her fight next?

  1. I would love to see her fight at her own weight , she is a very tuff fighter and deserves another chance to make her Mark in the UFC.
