Seo Hee Ham: “I thought about retiring after the UFC, but ROAD FC gave me an amazing opportunity”

Seo Hee Ham has revealed that she almost considering retiring from MMA competition following her release from the UFC.

Ham is the number-one atomweight fighter in the world.

Ham (17-8-0) is riding high as the number one 105-pound fighter in the world and is the reigning ROAD FC atomweight champion. She defends her belt at this Saturday’s ROAD FC 45 event when she battles Jinh Yu Frey.

The 30-year-old opened up about her retirement plans during a recent interview with ROAD FC. She says the “amazing opportunity” which was offered to her is why she decided against retiring. Despite being cut from the UFC, she still gained a lot from her time there.

I thought about retiring after the UFC, but ROAD FC gave me an amazing opportunity to fight for the first-ever women’s MMA title in Korea. I was delighted when I won, and because of the weight of it, I felt that I would have to work harder from now on.” Ham said.

The thing is that I had to fight with bigger opponents in UFC so it was a bit tricky. Thanks to a variety of experiences I had in those large-scale events, I no longer feel anxiety and fear in the cage.” she continued.

    1. So glad she stuck with it. She was one of my favorite fighters at 115 as, despite being much smaller than most of her opponents, she gave each one of them a real battle. Would have liked to have seen her and Michelle Waterson, another former atomweight, before she left. Not so sure about her #1 ranking at 105, but I guess we’ll see this Friday.

Still curious as to what Hamasaki is up to. Everyone but her and Invicta seem to have a position on it. If she was sticking at 115, you would think that she would be on the upcoming card given that her last fight was in March.
