Earlier today we reported that the history making 155lb lightweight title fight which was set to take place on January 28th 2017 has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately my fight for January is off again. I’m not sure why and I don’t feel the need to ask. I just know that the match maker I’ve been working with, Mike Camp, has been working very hard to find me an opponent. I greatly appreciate the effort he’s put forth so far, and trust he’ll find me a good fight for an upcoming card in Gateway Fighting Series. Hopefully still for the title. As for my former opponent, I’m not going to go so far as to even mention her name again. Some people think that all publicity is good publicity. I’ll keep my dignity. 2017 is going to be a good year for me, and a great year for women’s MMA”.

Since the original fight announcement a few weeks back, there has been lots of back and forth between the competitors, fellow contenders in the division as well as various behind the scenes issues. Fans were looking forward to the fight, however this now puts an end to the whole saga. The fight was simply never meant to be.

Let’s hope 2017 will be the year that the 155lb division will continue to grow and gain opportunities. There is an extremely talented and marketable group of women who are most comfortable at that weight class and would make for great opponents for Patterson including Bobbi-Jo Dalziel, Brittney Elkin, Gabrielle Holloway, Andria Wawro, Felicia Spencer and many more.
