RIZIN Fighting Federation may hold its first ever all-women tournament at 155 pounds sometime in 2017.
The news was first revealed on Twitter by Scott Minor who is a writer for popular sports website, ENT Imports. He wrote “I’m hearing a rumor RIZIN will be holding an all women 155-pound tournament sometime next year.
RIZIN is known for putting on exciting tournaments. This year, on Dec. 29 and 31, the promotion is holding an openweight tournament featuring fighters such as Mirko Cro Cop, Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal, and Heath Herring.
A women’s 155-pound tournament would be great news for the division. The only other major MMA promotion to hold women lightweight fights is Invicta FC, however the promotion has not held a fight in that division for well over a year.
Some of the top ranked 155lb stars include knockout artist Bobbi-Jo Dalziel, vicious ground and pound finisher Sarah Patterson, BJJ expert Brittney Elkin and many more.
