Rose Namajunas says Joanna Jedrzejczyk is undeserving of a rematch: “She tapped due to strikes”

Rose Namajunas shocked the world at UFC 217, knocking out Joanna Jedrzejczyk at Madison Square Garden to capture the UFC strawweight title.

Rose Namajunas destroyed Joanna Jedrzejczyk to become the third champion in UFC strawweight history.

Due to her dominance when she reigned as champion, Jedrzejczyk believes she is deserving of an immediate rematch, but Namajunas doesn’t think so.

I don’t think so,” Namajunas told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour earlier this week. “I don’t know how that could … anything is possible, right? A first-round knockout and she tapped due to strikes. Even though she was still stumbling afterwards, there was still some part of her that tapped. Not a fluke.

The 25-year-old who is still celebrating from the stunning victory is hopeful that she will receive a fresh opponent next.

I thought about the idea of the rest of the division and I wonder who’s gonna call me out and things like that,” Namajunas said. “But I haven’t really thought about who I want to fight yet, no. All I’ve been thinking about the next step — other than decompress, things like that and have a little fun and see the rest of my friends and family — is just making sure our team is tight and solid.”

  1. No matter what she (Joanna) says, she tapped out. She gave up. Does she deserve rematch with Namajunas? Rousey got one after being knocked out then hid for a year. Besides Rousey’s rematch wasn’t even against who she lost the title to! I think Joanna does deserve one. One
