Rose Namajunas discusses Jedrzejczyk’s recent comments: “The more she talks, the more she just makes herself sound stupid”

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas has responded to recent comments made by Joanna Jedrzejczyk after she beat Tecia Torres at the UFC on FOX 30 event.

The “Thug” has defeated Jedrzejczyk two times in the last twelve months.

The “Thug” has previously said that she would not grant Jedrzejczyk another title shot unless Jedrzejczyk admits Namajunas is the best strawweight in the world. Jedrzejczyk said after UFC on FOX 30 that she’d “never ever” do that and accused the champion of avoiding fights, namely against Jessica Andrade.

I will not do this,” Jedrzejczyk said at the recent post-fight press conference. “Never ever. She wants my honor? She must earn that. If she’s going to run, they’re going to make an interim belt. She was saying she’s afraid Conor McGregor will show up again and make a mess like he did before Brooklyn. He is not going to do this. Don’t be afraid, Rose. Come on. Just fight. Just face the best. You should face [Jessica] Andrade. If not, I will chase you. If you hold the belt, I will chase you. Until the next fight. That’s it.”

Namajunas responded in a recent interview with MMA Fighting.

It don’t really bother me,” Namajunas said. “I know at this point it just kind of sounds silly. The more she talks, the more she just makes herself sound stupid. For me, I like to just try and be positive about everything as much as possible. Of course, you can get dragged into silly shit. I just remind myself that she was a great champion. I looked up to her at one point in my life for a reason and I just try and remember what she did for the sport and just kind of leave it at that. She was a great champion, but now it’s my time. And eventually she’s gotta come to terms with that and be OK with it.

I think you can just look at her face after our second fight, just look at her face and know how she really felt,” Namajunas said. “Body language kind of shows more than what the words really say or mean. To me, it looked like she was trying to make herself believe in it, that she really won. When she really knew, at the end of the day, that I won the fight.

Namajunas is hoping to defend her UFC strawweight title in the very near future, however she doesn’t expect it to be an immediate third fight against Jedrzejczyk.

I don’t know what she’s thinking, really,” Namajunas said. “But I know what she’s saying and she’s saying I’m scared of this or that. I think all that’s really showing is she don’t want to fight the best. She don’t want to fight me, when she knows I’m the best. She wants me to try and lose to somebody else or something, so she can challenge them or something. But she don’t really want to beat the best — and that’s me.

Regardless of whatever she wants, whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen and I’m gonna still keep living my life and just remember that she was a great champion. She was a great champion.

WMMA World Rankings

Fight fans, how do you feel about Namajunas’ comments? Who would you like to see her defend the UFC strawweight title against next?

  1. Somehow I don’t think JJ is scared of facing Rose again. I would imagine she can’t wait and would love it if she could have a third chance at her. The UFC should have Rose face the winner of Andrade/KK, but if her recovery period is too prolonged, then JJ should face the that winner, and the winner of that fight challenge Rose. I wonder how long Rose can stay out before getting the flack that Nicco’s been receiving. Hopefully Rose does a better job of keeping us abreast of her progression and intent.

  2. I have a few thoughts on this. one, Rose is overall dealing with this in a respectable manner. the constant questions about Joanna and even giving some favorable words about her reign as champion. though I do find some things to be odd here. and I can see the MMA media’s thirst for click bait is unquenchable.

a bit ironic saying JJ doesn’t want to fight “the best”(talking about herself) when that’s all JJ did as champion until she lost to the most undeserving recipient of a title shot. ironically in this interview Rose claims there is no clear contender when there has been one the whole time (Andrade) who is fighting someone who turned her down last year in a re booked fight.

Rose already won over JJ twice, the unwritten rules of the UFC basically rule out a third fight between them. Rose is being unintentionally (benefit of the doubt) hypocritical in even suggesting Joanna should be interested in a third fight with her. she should know as well as the people reading that this is out of the question without a long, impressive run from Joanna or a quick fall from Rose. the quote from JJ in this page literally said she will chase the belt and if Rose has it she will chase her. did they not read that part to Rose when seeking a comment?

the articles circulating are very telling. it tells that Rose is not viable as a headline without Joanna’s (or McGregor like that other one) name attached. since the last 2 interviews she’s done there are zero updates. still nursing whatever injury she has, still not booked for a fight and still being asked about the same woman she beat already for click bait headlines. isn’t it downright paradoxical? Rose and the MMA bubble haven’t moved on, but Joanna is already back to fighting, winning, vacationing and hunting another title shot in the future.

  3. Rose fights whoever she wants when she gets back. Suarez/Esparza winner, Karolina/Andrade winner, Mackenzie Dern, anyone except Joanna again. JJ definitely shouldn’t take out the top contenders for Rose, she already did that once. if JJ has to fight Andrade or Karolina again she will demand it be for an interim title. the forest being hidden by the trees here is money. Joanna has taken a huge pay cut recently and she wants to get paid like a champion again. that’s all every fighter in every division wants, that gold trinket that gets them some decent money and some glory to go along with it.

as for Rose catching flack, she won’t. nothing significant, if at all. some people are “darlings” in the sport and Rose was always a main one. Joanna’s bully routine at UFC 217 has even sent that into overdrive. peace out.
