Last night at UFC 207, Ronda Rousey suffered a shocking second defeat at the hands of Amanda Nunes. Nunes won the bout via TKO in just 48 seconds of the very first round. Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars spoke to TMZ about the fight, Rousey’s future and reveals she wants her daughter to retire.
When asked about how Rousey is feeling, she said “Well she’s, you know, I think she’s sad and disappointed like anybody would be in the circumstances. So I think she’s just trying to think about it right now, as anybody would do.”
When asked if she wants to see her daughter fight again she reveals she wants to see her retire and wanted her to retire a long time ago. “I would like to see her retire. I would like to have seen her retire a long time ago. Who wants to see their kid getting hit.”
Mars would like to see Rousey take part in other things “She has a lot of talent in a lot of other things. Movies, writing, producing, she’s really really smart. I told her that at the very beginning when she started this. I said you’re smart and beautiful let the stupid people punch each other in the face.”
She is not going to force Rousey to retire however, and will leave that decision to her “No, I think she’s an adult and she can make her own decisions. If you get in a fight with somebody or you’re angry that’s not the time to make decisions. Decisions are best made when you’re not really emotional and obviously losing something’s a real emotional thing.”
After Rousey’s first loss back in November 2015 to Holly Holm, De Mars made it publicly known she did not like Rousey’s coach, Edmond Rarverdyan and is not happy with her daughter being coached by him. Rousey had stayed loyal to Edmond and had him in her corner yet again last night. When asked if she feels this played a factor in the second loss of Rousey’s career she said “I have not changed my opinions, that’s all I have to say about that. I haven’t changed my opinions on him, that’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
The reporter concluded by saying a lot of people feel Rousey did not deserve 3 million dollars for such a short fight, she responded by saying “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion“.
