Ronda Rousey discusses being worried when first given ‘Mile 22’ role, reveals how director Peter Berg helped encourage her

‘Mile 22’ was released in theatres in the United States this past Friday and is already proving to be a big hit, making $5.3 million on its first day and projected to make $17 million in total for its opening weekend.

Ronda Rousey stars in Mile 22.

One of the starring actresses in the movie is UFC Hall of Famer and former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey. The “Rowdy” one plays Sam Snow and her performance is being praised by media, critics and fans. The 31-year-old does more than just fighting in this movie, and she admitted in a recent interview that she felt “self-conscious” and “worried” when she was first given the role.

“At first I was kind of taken aback by the decision (to have me not fighting),” Rousey said. “… I was self-conscious – (Berg) was taking away what’s familiar to me. I was a little worried at first, but then I was so encouraged by the confidence he had in me. ‘This is Pete Berg. This is a legendary director, and he believes I’m not here to just fight – that I really can act and I really can contribute to this film and have this film be better off because I was in it.’

So I just delved completely headfirst into it. I spent a lot of time studying the script and the role. Sam is not a hand-to-hand fighter. She’s the best on the team with a gun, so I had to make sure that she moved like that.” she continued.

As well as acting, the WMMA pioneer made the transition to professional wrestling earlier this year and currently performs for the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). She challenges Alexa Bliss for the RAW women’s title at the organization’s marquee Summerslam event this Sunday.
