Ronda Rousey captures RAW women’s title, becomes first woman to have held major belt in MMA and professional wrestling

Sunday night at the WWE Summerslam 2018 PPV event, Ronda Rousey defeated Alexa Bliss by way of an armbar submission to capture the RAW women’s championship.

Ronda Rousey is the new RAW women’s champion.

The victory means that Rousey, a UFC Hall of Famer and former bantamweight champion, becomes the first woman in history to have held a major title in both professional wrestling and MMA.

The 31-year-old was overcome with emotion following the big win and was immediately greeted by WWE co-workers for an in-ring celebration, namely Natalya Neidhart, Nikki Bella and Bri Bella. She then went to embrace with her husband, Travis Browne, in the crowd, before finally leaving the arena.

Professional wrestling is a form of performance art which combines athletics with theatrical performance. The matches have predetermined outcomes to heighten entertainment value and all combative maneuvers are executed with the full cooperation of those involved and carefully performed in specific manners intended to lessen the chance of actual injury. These facts were once kept highly secretive, but are now a widely accepted open secret.

As well as performing as a professional wrestler, Rousey has also been taking the acting world by storm and is starring in ‘Mile 22’ which opened in theatres this past Friday. The 31-year-old admitted during a recent interview that she was worried when first given the role, but explained that director Peter Berg helped encourage her and show that she was more than just a fighter.
