Roberta Samad slams Arlene Blencowe: “She’s one of the weakest in the division. I don’t know why she’s fighting for the title”

Roberta Samad does not believe that Arlene Blencowe is deserving of her upcoming featherweight title shot against Julia Budd at the Bellator 189 event on December 1.

Hard-hitting Arlene Blencowe challenges Julia Budd for the Bellator MMA featherweight title on December 1.

Samad (4-1-0) made her feelings be known during a recent chat with WMMA Rankings.

I’ve seen Arlene fight before and I can tell you she is one of the weakest girls in the category. I don’t know why she’s fighting Julia [for the title]. I think Julia will win hands down but of course it’s unlikely they will give me a title shot on my first fight back after so much time” says Samad.

Blencowe is the number-three ranked women’s featherweight fighter in the world. The 34-year-old has won four of her last five, with the defeat coming by way of a majority decision to Julia Budd. The fight was considered a close one amongst critics, prompting Bellator MMA to book the upcoming rematch, this time for the world title. Earlier this year, Blencowe picked up consecutive first-round knockout wins over Janay Harding and Rhiannon Thompson.

Meanwhile, Samad is preparing to make her MMA return following a two-year hiatus from the sport. She feels she has made significant improvements to her game since 2015 and is looking to work her way up to eventually avenging her one and only career loss against the champion, Julia Budd.

  1. That’s pretty good smack talk coming from someone who’s beaten a who’s who list of nobodies. Like Roberta, Arlene has won 4 out of her last 5 fights. Unlike Roberta, Arlene has fought in the past 2 years and has fought some known opponents. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better skilled opponents than Roberta’s, but my guess is that they would be.
