ROAD FC set to introduce new weight classes for women weighing in at 145-pounds and above

ROAD Fighting Championship have announced the addition of two brand new weight classes for female mixed martial arts competitors.

The organization will be looking to open up weight-classes for women who compete in the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight and heavyweight divisions, as according to the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts which is currently used by most organizations including the UFC.

The “Road FC Heavyweight Division” will feature female competitors weighing in between 143 and 176-pounds (featherweights to welterweights), whilst the “ROAD FC Openweight Division” will feature women weighing in at above 176-pounds (middleweights to heavyweights).

The organization is set to host an all-female event on December 23 which will be headlined by an atomweight world title fight between reigning champion Seo Hee Ham and challenger Jinh Yu Frey. Several fights in the new ROAD FC women’s “heavyweight” and “openweight” divisions are expected to be announced for the event in the near future.

  1. Finally, a step in the right direction. Hope other organizations follow suit. At this point, though, you could have 136 on up and call them Women’s Heavyweight and Cyborg would probably be still be the number 1 ranked fighter.
