The fight was a back-and-forth war with Tapa getting the upper hand on the feet, whilst Reina completely controlled things when she managed to take it to the ground. Ultimately the judges felt Reina’s groundwork made more of an impact than Tapa’s stand-up.
Reina improves her record to 5-0-0. Since making her professional debut last November, the 21-year-old has remained very active, picking up notable victories over the likes of Shayna Baszler, Jazzy Gabert and Kristin Handel. Her latest victory over a much larger opponent only cements her place as one of MMA’s fastest rising stars. She is the number-one ranked welterweight fighter in the world.
Tapa falls to 0-2-0. Despite the loss, the 34-year-old showed remarkable improvements to her MMA game from when she first fought in December 2015. The “Queen of Rings” certainly proved why she is a danger on the feet to any female fighter in the world. She is most known for being Gabi Garcia‘s toughest opponents to date, knocking her down in the first round.
RIZIN FF 6, also known as “RIZIN Fighting World Grand Prix 2017 1st Round”, took place on Sunday July 30th from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event was aired live on pay-per-view.
