RIZIN FF 6 results: Gabi Garcia VS Oxana Gagloeva ends in no-contest following accidental eye poke

The highly anticipated women’s heavyweight fight between Gabi Garcia and Oxana Gagloeva ended in a no-contest at today’s RIZIN FF 6 event. Garcia landed an accidental eye poke in the first round, Gagloeva had five minutes to recover but refused to continue.

During the five-minute period in which Gagloeva was allowed time to recover, the Russian looked visibly upset and was seen telling the RIZIN staff that she believes Garcia poked her in the eye on purpose. The commentators quickly refuted these claims, explaining that Garcia was setting up a kick and had her hands out whilst doing so.

Garcia’s record is now officially 4-0-0, 1 NC. The Brazilian made her MMA debut in December 2015, knocking out Lei’D Tapa in the first round. She has since followed up with finishes over Anna Maliukova, Destanie Yarbrough and Yumiko Hotta. The 31-year-old is the number-one ranked heavyweight fighter in the world.

Gagloeva’s record becomes 0-0-0, 1 NC. The Russian was hoping to make a statement in her professional MMA debut. She is a two-time Russian champion in boxing, four-time Greek champion in boxing, three-time Grappling champion and a two-time Russian champion in Armwrestling. She trains at the Gladiator Fighting Team, along with fellow heavyweight contender and former Garcia opponent, Anna Maliukova.

  1. Good for Oskana Gagloeva for not continuing after that obvious eye poke. It doesn’t benefit MMA fighters who choose to continue the fight after being the recipient of a eye poke. Gunnar Nelson continued to fight in his fight against Santiago Ponzinibbio and the result was Gunnar Nelson getting knocked out because he couldn’t see the punches coming. Matt Mitrione dropped Travis Browne in their fight and Travis Browne responded by immediately poking Matt Mitrione in the eye twice and Matt Mitrione choose to continue the fight and the result was Matt Mitrione getting finished. The person at fault is the fighter that fouls, so Gabi Garcia needs to blame only herself.
