Maria Oliveira defeated Alyssa Garcia via unanimous decision at the ‘RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka’ earlier today. The bout served as a first-round bout in the women’s super atomweight tournament, Oliveira successfully advances to the semi-finals which are set to take place in December.
Oliveira improves her record to 10-2-0, putting herself on an impressive nine-fight win streak. The 20-year-old Brazilian trains at the Parana Vale Tudo gym and is a close friend and training partner of UFC strawweight, Jessica Andrade. She is considered one of the favorites to win the entire tournament, along with Japan’s Rena Kubota.
Garcia drops to 3-4-0 and is now on a two-fight losing streak following a first-round submission loss to Stephanie Alba at May’s Combate Americas event. The 23-year-old is mentored by UFC legend, Josh Barnett.
