Irene Rivera defeated Miyuu Yamamoto via a second round armbar submission at the ‘RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka’ earlier today. The bout served as a first-round bout in the women’s super atomweight tournament, Rivera successfully advances to the semi-finals which are set to take place in December.
Rivera improves her record to 7-4-0, successfully putting an end to a two-fight losing streak which saw her being submitted by Danella Eliasov and Celine Haga. All of Rivera’s previous victories come by way of submissions and knockouts in the very first round. The 24-year-old from Barcelona, Spain, was returning from an almost twelve-month lay-off.
Yamamoto falls to 1-3-0, being eliminated from the tournament in the process. The 43-year-old was coming off a unanimous decision win over Cassie Robb in July.
