Report: UFC working to book Montano vs Shevchenko flyweight title fight for #UFCCalgary

It seems that the long-awaited UFC women’s flyweight title fight between champion Nicco Montano and number one contender Valentina Shevchenko is close to being finalized.

According to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the UFC is trying to book the fight as the main event for the UFC on FOX 30 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 28. He tweeted that the bout is not firm, but that the first women’s flyweight title fight in the promotion’s history is the contest they want to cap the evening.

Montano (4-2) came from out of nowhere to win the inaugural belt against WMMA legend Roxanne Modafferi on the TUF 26 Finale card. An underdog in most of her TUF bouts, Montano turned heads with her gritty performances.

A formidable foe awaits her in facing the Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian Shevchenko, who fought her first UFC flyweight match in February when she demolished Priscila Cachoeira via second-round submission after delivering a furious beating with punches and elbows.

This title fight has been on the minds of fight fans for quite some time, and it looks like they will soon get their wish.

Who do you think will get the victory? Will Montano keep her title or will the “Bullet” win her first UFC belt?

  1. Upsets do happen, but if Nicco defeated Valentina, it would be nearly as monumental as Rose over JJ and Holly over Ronda. It’ll be interesting to see what the odds are.
