A thrilling strawweight rematch is reportedly in the works for the UFC 249 pay-per-view event in Brooklyn on April 18.
ESPN’s Ariel Hewlani shared the update via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
While the bout is not confirmed, Hewlani cites that “multitple sources” claim the fight is close to being finalized.
“Thug” Rose Namajunas (8-4) and Jessica “Bate Estaca” Andrade (20-7) first met at UFC 236 in Brazil. In a WMMA Rankings Fight of the Year and Upset of the Year nominee, Andrade defeated Namajunas via second round KO to win the strawweight championship.
Andrade would go on to pay the favor forward, fighting Zhang Weili in her home country of China for the belt. Weili defeated Andrade via first round TKO to win the title.
Namajunas has not fought since the title loss in May.
Is this a rematch you hope to see?
