Per Brett Okamoto of ESPN, the UFC is targeting colossal strawweight showdown between former title challengers Jessica Andrade (18-6) and Karolina Kowalkiewicz (12-2).
“Bate Estaca” has been a force since moving to the 115-pound division. After her sole defeat at strawweight to former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Andrade has put together a dominant 2-fight win streak with wins over fellow top ten ranked contenders in Claudia Gadelha and Tecia Torres.
Poland’s Kowalkiewicz bounced back from defeats to the aforementioned Jedrzejczyk and Gadelha with consecutive victories over Jodie Esquibel and Felice Herrig. She is the last woman to have defeated Rose Namajunas.
Both Andrade and Kowalkiewicz have expressed the desire to fight one another in the past. The winner will no doubt be in line for a crack at Rose Namajunas’ strawweight title.
UFC 228 takes place on September 8th. The location and venue have not yet been confirmed, however, sources close to ESPN say Dallas, Texas, is the front-running choice.
