A loaded bantamweight rematch may be on the horizon for UFC 243 on Oct. 5.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN, reported on Tuesday evening that Holly Holm (12-5) and Raquel Pennington (10-7) have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 243 later this year.
The bout is loaded with history for both fighters– the contest will be a rematch of Holly Holm’s UFC debut in 2015 versus Raquel Pennington. At UFC 184, the same night Ronda Rousey defeated Cat Zingano, Holm defeated Pennington via split-decision.
UFC 243 takes place in Melbourne, Australia– a place that holds a lot of value for “The Preacher’s Daughter”. It is the site of where she won bantamweight gold in 2015 when she historically knocked out Ronda Rousey.
Holm will enter the bout following the first KO loss of her MMA career that came via head kick by Amanda Nunes at UF 239 earlier this year. Pennington snapped a two-fight skid, also including a title fight loss to Amanda Nunes, by fighting her way back into the win column by defeating Irene Aldana via split-decision at UFC on ESPN 4.
Who will you be rooting for?
