First reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, two exciting women’s bouts are in the works for an upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Washington at the Capital One Arena on Dec. 7.
Former Invicta FC bantamweight champion and UFC featherweight title challenger Yana Kunitskaya (12-4, 1 NC) is slated to face top prospect Aspen Ladd (8-1).
Ladd will be entering the bout looking to bounce back from the first defeat of her pro career— a semi-controversial 16-second TKO loss to Germaine de Randamie in the main event of UFC Fight Night 155. Prior to that, Ladd went 8-0 as a pro with all of her fights taking place in either Invicta or UFC.
Since making her promotional debut in 2018 in the main event of UFC 222, Kunitskaya is 2-1 in the UFC with a loss to Cris Cyborg at featherweight and victories over Lina Lansberg and Marion Reneau at bantamweight.
Okamoto also reported that a high-profile strawweight showdown between Claudia Gadelha (17-4) and Cynthia Calvillo (8-1) is being targeted.
Gadelha, a former strawweight title challenger, returned to the win column at UFC 239 with a unanimous decision victory over Randa Markos. Her resume includes victories over Jessica Aguilar, Cortney Casey, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Carla Esparza.
Calvillo enters the bout on a two-fight win streak. She is 5-1 in the promotion overall with her sole loss coming to Carl Esparza at UFC 219 in 2017.
Sources say that both bouts have been verbally agreed to.
