Report: Ashlee Evans-Smith out, Ji Yeon Kim in versus Antonina Shevchenko

Per Brett Okamoto via Twitter, Antonina Shevchenko has received a new opponent for her official UFC debut at the TUF 28 Finale on Nov. 30 in Las Vegas.

After earning a UFC contract with a victory on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, the older Shevchenko sister was booked to face Ashlee Evans-Smith.

Okamoto reports Evans-Smith is out of the bout due to injury and South Korea’s Ji Yeon Kim will be filling in. Kim is 2-1 in the UFC and currently rides a two-fight win streak with wins over Justine Kish and Melinda Fabian.

Kim presents a different challenge than Evans-Smith does for Shevchenko. She is a boxer with solid fundamentals and good movement.

Would you rather have seen Evans-Smith versus Shevchenko, or are you happy with Kim vs Shevchenko?

  1. While I was looking forward to Antonina’s fight w/Smith, Kim is known for her striking, so this could be a good match up as well. Just looking forward to seeing how Antonina does against higher level competition. Not sure if we’re there yet.

  2. better fight imo. Kim is a scrapper and ha an obscene reach for the division at 72″. more than 60% of Antonina’s original opponents have pulled out, is the theory of the sisters that scary? haha.
