Maura Tynanes returns to competition at this Wednesday’s AFC 136 event when she battles Holli Salazar in a women’s welterweight showdown.
Tynanes (1-0) trains at the Jesus is Lord gym in Hawaii, along with UFC flyweight star, Rachael Ostovich. She made her professional debut this past March for the AFC, choking out Avril Straub in the very first round. Prior to making the move to pro MMA, Tynanes, was undefeated as an amateur and already had a background in combat sports, being a former collegiate/freestyle wrestler who placed second at nationals during her first year in college, she is also a black belt division naga championship winner.
Over the past few years, the heavier female divisions contested at lightweight and above have gained significant attention thanks to the success of women including King Reina, Jozette Cotton, Gabi Garcia, Destanie Yarbrough and Cindy Dandois. Tynanes believes she is the best in the world at welterweight and looks to prove it with another dominant performance this Wednesday.
AFC 136 takes place this Wednesday January 17 from the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The entire event will be aired live on UFC Fight Pass.
