Cynthia Calvillo has failed to make weight for this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 140 bout against Poliana Botelho.
Calvillo (6-1) was unable to make the strawweight limit, coming in at 118-pounds. However, what fans found more concerning was the condition in which Calvillo appeared to be in when making her way to the scales. The Team Alpha Male standout appeared barely able to walk, requiring assistance and almost stumbling after making it onto the scale. (Click HERE to see video footage).
The fight is expected to go ahead as planned. Calvillo will be fined 20 percent of her fight purse.
Several MMA stars have reacted to the frightening situation on social media. Take a look below:
The #1 most dangerous thing in the sport of WMMA is extreme weight cutting. https://t.co/kIqrBUI3Bg

I feel a little bit sick watching that. She should not be able to fight after not being able to walk to the scale unassisted. I hope she’s ok https://t.co/6rzMKTLaEc

This is NOT ok 😔

I agree she put herself in the situation but I also think the UFC could step up their training and supervision of weight cuts to make it safer. Since she is fighting for them it is at their discretion to let the fight go on and its dangerous to let a depleted fighter fight
