UFC strawweight Polyana Viana is hoping to fight a top-ten contender next and believes it’s only a matter of time before she is crowned the 115-pound world champion.
Viana (10-1-0) made a stunning promotional debut at the UFC Fight Night 125 event earlier this month, submitting Maia Stevenson early in the very first round via rear-naked choke.
The 26-year-old discussed her recent debut and future plans during a chat with MMA Fighting.
On her quick finish:
It didn’t surprise me. That’s what I train to do. I was the first to arrive in the gym every day to train this position with my coach, and I always said I’d finish her with this. I believed in it and submitted her.
On Dana White complimenting her debut on social media:
I was really happy. I’ll screen grab that and post [laughs]. He wasn’t here, Bruce (Buffer) wasn’t here, and I thought he wouldn’t pay much attention to this event because it’s in Brazil, but I’m glad that he complimented me. I’m really happy. … It means that he’s watching me. Maybe now he’ll follow me more.
On wanting to be the UFC champion as soon as possible:
I don’t want to spend years until I get there. I want it soon. It’s a matter of time. Remember my face, this fat cheek, because you’ll see me with the belt really soon.
