Pearl Gonzalez VS Poliana Botelho | This Saturday at UFC 216 prelims | 8pm ET, LIVE on FX

This Saturday an exciting women’s strawweight fight will go down when Pearl Gonzalez makes her return to the octagon to battle promotional newcomer Poliana Botelho, as part of the UFC 216 televised preliminary card.

Gonzalez (6-2) will be searching for her first UFC victory in just her second appearance. The 31-year-old made her debut for the organization in April, losing to undefeated Cynthia Calvillo by way of a third-round rear-naked choke. Despite the loss, she was certainly one of Calvillo’s toughest opponents to date and looks to showcase why she is one of the best in the world on Saturday. She has finished five of her six career victories, four submissions and one knockout.

Botelho (5-1) was originally scheduled to make her UFC debut against Valerie Letourneau last December, however she was forced to withdraw due to an injury. The 28-year-old is riding high on a three-fight win streak and has a 100% finish rate, finishing all her career victories by way of knockouts. Her sole career loss comes to fellow Brazilian UFC strawweight, the undefeated Viviane Pereira.

UFC 216 takes place this Saturday October 7th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The preliminary card featuring Gonzalez VS Botelho will be aired live on FX from 8pm EST.

  1. Good job of keeping up in what’s going on in WMMA, Noah. You seem to be slipping, or maybe I’ve just been missing some of the news out in Asia. I’ve yet to see anything about Weili Zhang vs. Bianca Sattelmayer, and I believe they fight tomorrow. Nor so I recall seeing anything about Angela Lee’s rematch with Mei Yamaguchi nor Lee’s expressed intent to move up to 115 (technically at One, I guess that could be considered125). Were these oversights or were you just a little turned off by how your predecessor, the MMA Nerd, gushed over Lee?
