Paige VanZant eyeing December return to cage, wants Jessica-Rose Clark rematch: “I really want that one back”

UFC flyweight Paige VanZant has revealed that she is hoping to return to the cage in December and has her sights set on a rematch against Jessica-Rose Clark.

VanZant wants Jessica-Rose Clark rematch.

VanZant (7-4) recently gave an update on her arm injury during a chat with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

The road to recovery has been really long, but I know I’ll be back in there,” VanZant said. “My managers are already talking opponents to fight by the end of the year. If I get good news at the end of this month, for sure I’m fighting at the end of this year.

I’m thinking December. If everything goes right, (my arm) is supposed to be totally healed by then. I’ll for sure be cleared.

“12 Gauge” has previously already received surgery for the broken arm, however things didn’t go to plan.

I’m hoping this surgery went a lot better than the last one,” VanZant says. “Right now I’m just trying to take it really easy. I have my checkup at the end of the month. That will determine a lot.

“(The doctors) don’t know exactly what went wrong. Six months went by and my arm had never healed.”

The 24-year-old lost out to Jessica-Rose Clark via unanimous decision when the pair fought at the UFC Fight Night 124 event this past January. It was this fight in which VanZant suffered her injury, after landing a spinning backfist on Clark. VanZant wants nothing more than to rematch Clark and is confident things would go differently this time.

I would love to get the rematch with Jessica-Rose,” VanZant says. “I really want that one back. It’s really bitter to taste defeat. I would love to show what I have.”

  1. Personally, I think PVZ should drop down to 115. She is rather small for FW and I have a hard time seeing her in the top 10. Although she complains about the weight cuts, with a proper weight trainer and some self-discipline it should not be that big of a problem at 115. Perhaps she should try training at Cortney Casey-Sanchez’s camp. Cortney is 2 inches taller and looks like she has a heavier build but seems to have no issues with making weight.

  2. imo she needs to get her nutrition and work ethic in order and go back to 115. if she insist on staying at 125 imo Gillian Robertson would be a good opponent. she will simply submit Paige without breaking anything and she is also small for the division, so maybe Paige will have a shot at succeeding with her usual rough housing, random attack thing.

PVZ is still a star in the sport and fighting someone like Rose-Clark again is pointless. does nothing for her career and she’s too big for someone of Paige’s size and skill level to beat. at least convincingly enough for the quality of judging this sport still suffers through. hope she gets this broken arm sorted.

    1. You know any other young girl or boy when they break their bones at 24 years old they heal with lightning speed.
I’m not a doctor but I sincerely believe that Pages bones didn’t heal because she has breast implants. Because your immune system reacts to foreign bodies when those bolt ons went in it probably took her immune systems attention and it forgot all about healing her bones.

        1. yeah paige thought hey i’ll have down time with my broken arm, let me get some implants in the meantime.
Either that caused her body not to heal, or maybe probably got back to activity too soon, punching bags or whatever. Or both reasons. I’m done with her, she’ll never be a successful fighter, the UFC doesn’t shine the light on her any more, and she’s doing this on her own now. it’s not the giddy days of 2 years ago any more. Her prime motivation seems to be a angry drive to show the haters wrong, which is taking her down the wrong path. That’s not a healthy prime motivation for MMA.

  4. PVZ fought basically 3 full rounds with a obviously proven broken wrist and Clark still couldn’t submit her. That says a lot about the sheer toughness of PVZ. And because of the broken wrist Clark did not have to deal with a lot of. arsenal PVZ could have thrown at her. So everyone don’t get too carried away about how big and strong Clark was to PVZ, she was basically fighting a one arms opponent. And face it, PVZ broke her wrist by hitting Clark when a spinning backfist. Clark beat a injured opponent like any opponent should, but Clark did so in a very unimpressive fashion. And I’m just a fan that likes to see good fights. PVZ don’t be like Raquel Pennington and come back too soon without the injury fully healing because of some stupid pride. Heal up, stay at Flyweight, and give your best.
