This past Sunday’s RIZIN Fighting Federation 6 event was hit with controversy when it comes to the women’s heavyweight fight between number-one ranked Gabi Garcia and Russian boxing champion, Oxana Gagloeva.
The fight lased only 16 seconds and ended in a no-contest. Garcia landed an accidental eye poke in the first round, Gagloeva had five minutes to recover but refused to continue. During the five-minute period in which the Russian was allowed time to recover, she looked visibly upset and was seen telling the RIZIN staff that she believes Garcia poked her in the eye on purpose. The commentators quickly refuted these claims, explaining that Garcia was setting up a kick and had her hand out whilst doing so.
Now, Oxana Gagloeva’s manager, Sergey Gibelev has come forward with with some strong words on Garcia.
“Garcia is the benchmark of a fighter who does not respect other fighters. At an occasional eye-poke, the self-respecting fighter at least has apologized” Gibelev said.
“We believe that this against the rules. A pure fighter would apologize” he finished.
RIZIN Fighting Federation 6 took place on 30 July from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event was aired live on pay-per-view.
