This Sunday at RIZIN FF 6, the highly anticipated women’s heavyweight fight between Oxana Gagloeva and number-one ranked Gabi Garcia ended in a no-contest. Garcia landed an accidental eye poke in the first round, Gagloeva had five minutes to recover but refused to continue.
During the five-minute period in which Gagloeva was allowed time to recover, the Russian looked visibly upset and was seen telling the RIZIN staff that she believes Garcia poked her in the eye on purpose. The commentators quickly refuted these claims, explaining that Garcia was setting up a kick and had her hands out whilst doing so.
Following the fight, Gagloeva received a lot of backlash from fans who believe she should have continued fighting. Garcia has also spoken out, branding the Russian a ‘p**sy‘ and a ‘coward’. Fellow heavyweight competitor, Destanie Yarbrough, believes that Gagloeva was looking for a “way out“.
Now Gagloeva’s camp, the Gladiator Fight Team, have given an update on her condition. They have posted a photo of her eye, over 15 hours after the incident. When asked by WMMA Rankings for an update, all that was said is that the eye is “badly damaged”.
