After a scary accident forced Angela Lee (8-0) out of an upcoming title defense, ONE: Immortal Pursuit on November 24 will still have an atomweight clash as Gina Inoing (6-2) steps in on short notice to replace Lee against Mei Yamaguchi (16-10-1).
Iniong and Yamaguchi first met in 2014– with Inoing defeating Yamaguchi via split decision. Though the rematch was made possible due to unfortunate circumstances, Inoing is looking forward to the bout, “Facing Mei Yamaguchi three years ago was like entering through an eye of a needle. That bout opened doors of great opportunity for me in this sport,” said Iniong. “I am expecting a tough duel with her again on 24 November in Singapore. There is something I want to achieve in ONE Championship, and I must win this match to have it.”
Despite competing less than two weeks ago on November 10, defeating Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol via second round TKO, Inoing had “no hesitation” accepting the bout.
Yamaguchi also commented on the bout, telling fans to ‘brace themselves for fireworks,’ “I commend Gina Iniong for taking this match on a short notice. She is a good martial arts artist with a promising potential to be the best in what she does. Gina is in good hands, training with no less than the best at Team Lakay. I have faced her before, and she is always in good condition. As always, I am in tiptop shape for every bout. Hence, brace yourselves for fireworks.”
