ONE Championship results: Angela Lee remains ‘unstoppable’ after five round war

Today, in the main event of ONE Championship 73: Unstoppable Dreams in Singapore, unbeaten atomweight champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee defends her title in a 2016 rematch versus Mei Yamaguchi.

Lee returns to action for the first time since a tragic car accident last year that postponed her title defense to take on veteran Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi.

The fight went five rounds– all five were action-packed and back-and-forth.

Angela Lee def. Mei Yamaguchi via unanimous decision to retain atomweight title.

  1. another win, but I don’t see anything special or great about Lee. a fine prospect, but it’s high time she start taking some real tests and step up in competition so she can grow and we truly learn where her ceiling is. the girl is a big straw weight who started fighting at 125, being given real atom weights as opponents. and the best is this lady 14 years her senior with almost a dozen losses. Weili Zhang I believe would smash Angela Lee. Zhang has made the move to the UFC and has a fight booked. ONE FC is a club level organization with money parading as being a top level MMA roster.

    1. While admittedly many, but not all, of her opponents are smaller than her, I think she had accomplished much by the time she was 19. Given her emotional state in her walkout in today’s fight, I think that her car accident last year has had more of an impact on her than she cares to admit. She is nowhere near ready to compete with the best in the UFC and given her cushy situation at ONE, I doubt that we will be seeing her there any time soon. I had hoped to see her and Weili fight before the UFC picked up on the latter, but I agree that Angela would probably lose to her. A fight between her and Seo Hee Ham would be interesting. Just because you’re not familiar with many of ONE’S fighters, that hardly makes them a club level organization. I’d say they rank in the top 3 rosters internationally.

      1. I’m familiar with several of their fighters. the fact is, they mostly have fighters at the club and regional level fighting. Angela Lee is paraded as a world champion and has talked about fighting the UFC chmapion etc. when she is clearly not on that level. cycling through the same roster of low level opponents to pad her resume is getting boring. even the crowd at this last event thought she lost the fight, as many people online do. this little game is losing it’s luster.

there is going to be times when there is a size discrepancy between opponents, that is only natural. but ONE FC has made this division a complete ruse naming it atomweight, when it is in fact strawweight, and going so far as to keep finding real atomweights to fight a girl that is a whole weight class bigger than them. now the complete lack of transparency around weigh-ins is another thing making people raise eyebrows.
