Olga Rubin discusses upcoming Bellator MMA fight, Budd vs. Blencowe 2, being undefeated and more

Olga Rubin returns to action at this week’s Bellator 188 event when she battles Joana Magalhaes in a women’s featherweight showdown.

Olga Rubin is one of the most exciting prospects in the women’s featherweight division.

Rubin (3-0) is one of the most highly-touted prospects in the 145-pound division, currently undefeated with two first-round knockout victories to her record. The 28-year-old, who trains out of Pariente Academy, was born in Moscow, Russia, but now resides in Tell Aviv, Israel. She made her professional MMA debut at the Bellator 164 event in November 2016, knocking out Laurita Likker-Cibirite in the very first round. She made her follow-up appearance at the Desert Combat Challenge 6 event this past April, again earning herself a first-round knockout victory over Carmel Ben Shoshan. In her most recent showing at KNO World Tour 1 she dominated Tetyana Voznyuk for the unanimous decision win. A victory at Bellator 188 could earn Rubin a full-time contract with the prestigious organization, as well as a crack at one of the top-ten ranked female featherweight fighters in the world.

Rubin recently spoke to WMMA Rankings about a number of topics including the upcoming Budd vs. Blencowe 2 featherweight title fight, pressures of being undefeated, her upcoming opponent and lots more.

Olga Rubin eyeing full-time contract with Bellator MMA.

What does it mean for you to be a member of the Bellator MMA featherweight roster?
I haven’t signed with Bellator MMA yet. I’m a free agent with hopes of signing with the promotion after this fight. I think their featherweight division is great and I’ll be really happy to be a part of it.

You are currently undefeated with some highlight reel finishes to your record. Do you find this adds more pressure leading into fights?
I’m not pressuring myself about my undefeated record. Its all about entering the cage and having fun. We either win or we learn.

You’ll be facing Joana Magalhaes at Bellator 188. What are your opinions on her as an opponent?
She’s a southpaw striker. Im southpaw as well. Will be fun.

Arlene Blencowe will challenge Julia Budd for the featherweight title on December 1. How do you see the fight going down and do you see yourself eventually challenging the winner?
Arlene is a great boxer. Julia is super strong and has great wrestling and cage work. Super excited for this fight and of course eventually I would like to fight the best!

What are your goals in MMA when it comes to from now and this time next year?
I hope to be on the Bellator roster and fight as much as possible.

Thank you Olga, anything you’d like to add?
Shout out for my coach ido pariente and my teammates at pariente academy.

Bellator 188 takes place this Thursday November 16 from the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel at 2pm EST. The preliminary card featuring Olga Rubin will air on tape delay via Spike.com from 7pm EST on Friday November 17.

  1. Too bad that Bellator has relegated “one of the most highly-touted prospects in the 145-pound division” to their on-line only Prelims. One would think that when their main card has 4 finishes (3 in the first round), like last week, they could have shown their prelim fight(s) during their allotted time.

  2. Well now I know why Bellator didn’t feature any prelims during their abbreviated Main Card. The sole prelim fight cancelled. Can you imagine driving a half hour and paying good money to see the fights and the total amount of time in the cage is less than 25 minutes?

  3. Anyone out there know how to view Olga’s fight? Neither Spike.com nor Bellator.com showed it, but said the prelims could be viewed on their Bellator app. Downloaded the app this evening and the last “full fight” they featured under their “Full Fights” heading was last week’s McKee vs. Moore. Nothing re: Prelims was available under their “Originals,” “Highlights” or “Newest” either. Any suggestions would be welcome.
