Octagon newcomer Vanessa Melo replaces Marion Reneau vs. Irene Aldana

UFC newcomer Vanessa Melo will be stepping up to replace Marion Reneau against Irene Aldana in Mexico City on Sept. 21.

On Wednesday, UFC Brazil confirmed the news.

The opportunity opened up for Melo on just over one weeks notice when Reneau was forced to withdraw from the scheduled bout.

Melo enters the fight on a five-fight win streak— her most recent victory being unanimous decision over Jan Finney. “Miss Simpatia’s” resume includes a unanimous decision victory over current UFC flyweight Molly McCann.

Aldana had a three-fight win streak snapped by a split-decision loss to Raquel Pennington in her last bout. The Mexican prospect will look to get back on track at home territory.

  1. Sherdog and Tapology both have her win over McCann as a UD rather than a sub finish… Molly has said more than once she’s not the tapping type either. Does someone know a secret we don’t, hmmm? 👀

    1. hey Stamina! it is a UD victory! That was an oversight on my part when crafting the article— i’ve edited it and will repost. I apologize to Meatball and any readers for that!!
