A women’s 125-pound fight has been set for the ONE Championship 54 event on April 21st when Michelle Nicolini takes on Irina Mazepa. To clear any confusion, the ‘ONE’ organization refers to their 125-pound division as the strawweight division, unlike most organizations which refer to the 125-pound division as the flyweight division, and the 115-pound division as the strawweight division.
Nicolini (3-1-0) is regarded as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend in her home country. The 35-year-old is an eight-time BJJ world champion and hall of famer, her elite grappling skills have brought her great success since transitioning to MMA, as she now owns a solid 3-1 professional record which includes two impressive submission victories. Nicolini made her ONE Championship debut last November, picking up a first-round submission victory over Mona Samir. An extremely technical grappler, Nicolini recently relocated to Singapore to join the Evolve Fight Team.
Unbeaten Irina Mazepa (2-0-0) of St. Petersburg, Russia, is on an incredible run inside the ONE Championship cage. In her first two professional fights, which happen to be for the promotion, Mazepa defeated two of the most talented fighters in the 125-pound division, dominating both Ann Osman of Malaysia and former boxing world champion Ana Julaton of the Philippines. A six-time wushu world champion and a K1 world champion kickboxer, Mazepa is set to make her highly-anticipated return to the ONE Championship cage to once again show off her devastating striking skills.
ONE Championship 54 takes place on April 21st from the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. The event will be aired live on pay-per-view via ONE Championship’s official website.
