This Wednesday’s AFC 136 event will feature an exciting women’s welterweight fight between Maura Tynanes and Holli “Kill Shot” Salazar.
Tynanes (1-0) trains at the Jesus is Lord gym in Hawaii, along with UFC star, Rachael Ostovich. She made her professional debut this past March for the AFC, choking out Avril Straub in the very first round. Prior to making the move to MMA, Tynanes, who was undefeated as an amateur, already had a background in combat sports, being a former collegiate/freestyle wrestler who placed second at nationals during her first year in college, she is also a black belt division naga championship winner.
Salazar (0-0) will be making her professional debut following a successful amateur run in which she’s coming off an impressive 40-second submission win over Camee Adams. Salazar fights out of Colorado and currently trains at the Golden Fights Cage Wars MMA Gym.
Wednesday’s fight is a very important one for the developing women’s welterweight weight-class. Both fighters believe they will be the woman to put the division on the map.
Over the past few years, the heavier female divisions contested at lightweight and above have gained significant attention thanks to the success of women including King Reina, Jozette Cotton, Gabi Garcia, Destanie Yarbrough and Cindy Dandois.
Alaska Fighting Championship 136 takes place this Wednesday (January 17) from the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The entire event will be aired live on UFC Fight Pass from 11:59pm EST.
