Mackenzie Dern moves up to flyweight, meets Mandy Polk in October at LFA 24

After failing to make weight in her first two professional MMA appearances, BJJ ace Mackenzie Dern (3-0 MMA) will move up to the 125-pound division to face Mandy Polk (3-3) at Legacy Fighting Alliance 24.

Mackenzie Dern will move from the 115-pound division to the 125-pound division for her first since March. The weight class change should come as no surprise, as Dern has struggled to make 115 several times in the past.

Her opponent at LFA 24 will be Mandy “Misdemeanor” Polk. Polk holds a professional record of 3-3. Of her victories, one comes by way of submission and two by decision. Polk has never been submitted. She has faced the likes of Rebecca Ruth, and most recently, Katy Collins.

In less than a year as a pro, Dern raked up three straight wins, one by submission and two by decision. She holds victories over current TUF 26 competitor Montana Stewart, Kenia Rosas, and Katherine Roy. Dern will look to extend her record to 4-0. She is a worldly grappler with a developing striking game.

LFA 24 takes place at the Comercia Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 13th.

Are you excited to see Dern back in action? How do you think she will perform at 125?

  1. Wow! What a shocker. This woman is drinking so much UFC kool-aid that she was going to keep not listening to her body and harm herself trying to make 115 pounds. It’s a good thing for her that the UFC added the 125 pounds, Flyweight division so she can stop harming herself trying to make 115 pounds and so she can keep drinking that UFC kool-aid (lol). Anyway, good luck to Mackenzie Dern.

  2. 125 makes a lot more sense for her. I’m sure she’ll do well there and should expect to see her in the UFC after TUF 26 is finished. I have a feeling that Polk’s record of no submissions will soon be a thing of the past.
